DIAN Implements Changes to the Electronic Invoicing System in Colombia

Electronic Invoicing System in Colombia: security changes implemented by DIAN

The National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) announced new security measures to strengthen the consultation of electronic documents within Colombia’s Electronic Invoicing System.

These changes aim to protect platform availability, improve access controls, and ensure the proper use of digital services provided to taxpayers and companies.

What changes in the Electronic Invoicing System?

As part of this update, DIAN will introduce new validation mechanisms for queries made through its official platform, with the objective of reducing risks associated with automated access that could affect service performance.

With the implementation of these changes, users will need to provide additional information when consulting or downloading electronic documents.

What changes in the electronic document consultation process?

To consult documents through the DIAN portal, users will need to provide:

  • Identification number of the issuer or recipient of the electronic document.
  • The same identification number again when requesting the document download.

Additionally, the platform may activate security validations when it detects consultation patterns associated with:

  • Robots or automated processes.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
  • Access attempts that may represent a risk to information protection.

When this validation is activated, users must complete a verification process to confirm that the operation is being performed by a person. Once approved, they will be able to continue the consultation process normally.

Impact on companies with Electronic Invoicing System integrations

Organizations that have automated integrations to consult electronic documents should review their current processes and evaluate potential operational impacts.

Companies using business solutions connected to electronic invoicing services must ensure that their tools are prepared to adapt to the new security mechanisms defined by DIAN.

Business management solutions such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central allow companies to centralize financial and administrative processes, facilitating adaptation to regulatory changes through specialized configurations and integrations.

When will DIAN’s new validation mechanism be available?

The new mechanism will be available starting July 28, 2026, through the “Search Document” option within DIAN’s Electronic Invoicing System.

Companies are encouraged to review their developments, integrations, and internal processes related to electronic document consultation in order to identify and implement any necessary adjustments in advance.

Keeping technology solutions updated and using platforms adapted to local tax requirements is essential to ensure operational continuity and regulatory compliance.
